How is my local library or school library using social media?
Kogarah Public Library’s website has a professional design with a
simple and clean layout. The website is user friendly and easy to
navigate. The sidebar menu provides direct links to the pages of major
library services such as E-resources, Children collection, and local study
collection. Online catalogue searching bar and new items promotion are included in
the homepage to allow library user to start catalogue searching
straight away from the homepage. Social networking tools and Web 2.0
technologies such as Facebook, Eventbrite online booking system,
Chilifresh online review, and SirsiDynix online catalogue system are all in
Kogarah library’s website.
Library users are encouraged to use Chilifresh online to rate
and review a library book, interact with library’s Facebook which is included
in the homepage to provide library news update (conversation,
content co-creation and community), look for library events and
activities and make booking online with Eventbrite calendar in the homepage,
and search and reserve library items online using the online catalogue
system. Plain language is used throughout the website to make all
the contents clear and easy to understand. It is also discovered that the
website is mobile device optimized by testing multiple mobile devices with
various screen sizes to access the website.
Twitter is recommended to be included in Kogarah Library’s website
to enhance the connection with library users and the community building.
YouTube is also recommended for the website as an effective tool for
library’s marketing and information broadcasting.
